In hockey, a money line takes the place of a point-spread. When it comes to money line betting, you need just need the team you select to win the game straight up, regardless of the margin. In money line wagering, you always have a favorite and an underdog. The minus sign (Ex. Penguins -120) indicates the favorite and the amount you must wager to win $100. In the above example, bettors would stake $120 to win $100 on the Penguins. The plus sign (Ex. Red Wings +100) indicates the underdog and the amount you will win for every $100 wager. In this case, bettors would place $100 on the Red Wings to win $100.

The “O/U”, also known as Over/Under or Total, is the number of combined goals that the oddsmakers expect to be scored in the matchup. Bettors can either wager Over or Under on the goals listed. In the above example, 5 ½ goals, bettors taking the Over would win if the Penguins and Red Wings score 6 or more goals in the game. Bettors taking the Under would win if the two teams combine for five goals or less. Oddsmakers often associate a money line with “O/U” lines, which means bettors would have to lay extra money in some cases. Ex. Over 5 ½ (-120) — Bettors would wager $120 to win $100.

The Puck Line is a combination of a money line and point-spread wager. In most cases, the Puck Line is always plus or minus 1 ½ goals. Put simply, you either wager on a team to win by two or more goals or you bet on a team to either win outright or lose by just one goals. Since bettors are at a disadvantage by taking the favorite, oddsmakers install a positive return. In the above example, the Penguins are – 1 ½ (+200) and the Red Wings are +1 ½ (-2400). If you wager $100 on the Penguins, you would earn $200 if they won the game by two or more goals. If they lost the game outright or won by exactly one goal, you would lose your $100 wager. If you bet $100 on the Red Wings, you would have to put up $240. This wager will win if Pittsburgh wins outright or if they lose by exactly one goal.

The Grand Salami is a unique Over/Under bet in pro hockey that is tied into all games for a particular day. Oddsmakers create a number each day based on the number of games available and you can wager on ‘over' or ‘under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed ‘over/under' odds for each game on that particular day. The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shootout portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team one more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.
