Basic Strategy for Blackjack

SURRENDER

Surrender a hard 16 (but not a pair of 8s) vs. the dealer's 9, 10, or A.
Surrender a hard 15 vs. the dealer's 10.

SPLIT

Always split the aces and 8s.
Never split the 5s and 10s.
Split the 2s and 3s against a dealer's 4-7
Split the 4s when the dealer shows a 5 or 6.
Split the 6s against a dealer's 2-6.
Split the 7s against a dealer's 2-7.
Split the 9s against a dealer's 2-6 or 8-9.

DOUBLE DOWN

Double a hard 9 vs. dealer's 3-6.
Double hard 10 except against a dealer's 10 or A.
Double a hard 11 except against a dealer's A.
Double a soft 13 or 14 vs. dealer's 5-6.
Double a soft 15 or 16 vs. dealer's 4-6.
Double a soft 17 or 18 vs. dealer's 3-6.

HIT OR STAND

Always hit a hard 11 or less.
Stand on a hard 12 against a dealer's 4-6, otherwise hit.
Stand on a hard 13-16 against a dealer's 2-6, otherwise hit.
Always stand on a hard 17 or more.
Always hit a soft 17 or less.
Stand on a soft 18 except if the dealer hits 9, 10, or A.
Always stand on a soft 19 or more.

*IF DEALER HITS SOFT 17

Surrender a 15, a pair of 8s, and 17 vs. a dealer's A.
Double an 11 vs. a dealer's A.
Double a soft 18 vs. a dealer's 2.
Double a soft 19 vs. a dealer's 6.
